Bake A Pooch-Perfect Birthday Cake!

Celebrate Your Pooch With This Easy to Make Recipe.

As a Pastry Chef, I’ve had the opportunity to make, bake and create a lot of fun treats over the years but NO project could possibly be more fun than baking a birthday cake for our FURRY FOUR-LEGGED Airbnb guest, Elly! This visitor has recently triumphed over major health issues over the last several years. So, Elly (aka Elly-Belly) needs to celebrate her 9th Birthday in a big way!  My mission… to develop a pet-friendly cake recipe just for Elly. This recipe is simple, dog-friendly and easily adaptable based on your pooch’s needs. Now, you can make your very own Pooch-Perfect Birthday Cake for your furry friend!  Happy baking!

SUPER HELPFUL TIP ALERT: This recipe is very adaptable based on your dog’s diet and what ingredients that you have on-hand. For example, if you have no pumpkin puree, simply omit it and bake without. If your dog can not eat bananas - no worries. Simply omit the banana. As long as the recipe contains the essential ingredients of flour, baking soda, baking powder and egg your cake will turn out fabulous!

Directions:

Preheat a conventional over to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Using an electric mixer, combine all of the ingredients together in a bowl and mix until thoroughly combined. Scoop batter into a cake pan or muffin tin. When using a muffin tin, the cake will bake for approximately 20 minutes. The cake is done when it “springs back’ slightly when touched.  Allow the cake to cool completely before decorating.

Decorating:

Ask any discriminating canine and they will tell you that they expect their cake to be fully decorated and presented to them as if they are royalty. Understandable! For Elly’s cake, I took a muffin and placed it in a fun (indestructible) pedestal style dish. Next, I “iced” the sides with a light coating or peanut butter. To top off this canine creation, I used unsweetened whipped cream and a few small doggie treats for decor. Just use your creativity and imagination to decorate your cake.

Helpful Tip: Have extras? Store the cake in an air-tight container and freeze. Now, you can share and spread the love to all of your favorite doggie friends and neighbors.

Be warned that I had lots of “help” in the kitchen while I was preparing this treat and I know you will too! My pups, Lola and Archie, eyed me the entire time!
