Hi!

Welcome to the Giddy Chick blog. My name is Cheryl and I’m passionate about sharing my experiences as a Pastry Chef and as a successful Home Host.

Toddy with your HOTTIE

Toddy with your HOTTIE

This Hot Toddy is a perfect beverage to snuggle up with your Valentine on a cold winter day.

Valentine’s Day is in the middle of winter. It’s cold (and usually snowing!) and I enjoy staying in on the couch watching a movie while everyone is crowding the restaurants for Valenitne’s Day. Yet, I still want a handcrafted beverage that hits the spot (without the $20 price tag too). This Hot Toddy recipe is courtesy of my husband. He always made it during the winter and now I request it, especially when I feel a cold coming on. The addition of hibiscus tea not only adds that extra sweetness and flavor but the beautiful hue it creates screams Valentine’s Day.

Penelope whiskey is my choice for mixed beverages. It has a smooth finish and adds hints of vanilla and spice to complement this Hot Toddy.

What Whiskey to Use?

We have collected a lot of Bourbons and whiskeys over the years, but my husband stumbled across Penelope. He told me he instantly thought of me because it’s smooth…I’m very smooth. Well, he meant the whiskey was smooth in finish. It doesn’t have that bite that most whiskeys do, it’s great in a mixed beverage and adds subtle hints of vanilla and spice which complement this hot toddy. I enjoy it in this beverage and in my old fashioned too.

Any tea will do, but I enjoy a good Earl Grey or this Hibiscus tea adds that extra flavor and the color is so beautiful, especially for a Valentine’s drink.

Don’t Be Afraid to Play

This recipe is based on how my husband and I prefer our Hot Toddies. What’s great about this drink is that you can customize it to your liking. Want more whiskey? Do it! Need it sweeter? Add more honey. Don’t like the cinnamon? Stir with a spoon. I really think it’s a solid recipe but we all have different palates and preferences so don’t be afraid to play around with it. Even try different teas to see what different combinations you can make.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Tea of Choice

  • 2 oz Whiskey

  • 1/2 oz Citrus Juice

  • 1 Tbsp Honey

  • 1 Cinnamon Stick

  • Orange, for garnish

Makes 1 cozy mug…double for you and your date!

Hot Toddies were used as home remedies for cold and flu symptoms. It helps ease the discomfort of a sore throat and stuffy nose. But always seek medical advice from your doctor! I’m just Missy, your Hot Toddy aficionado.

Directions:

  1. Prepare your tea of choice following the package directions for one cup.

  2. Add whiskey, citrus juice and honey. ***You can add more/less of each depending on your preference.

  3. Stir with cinnamon stick.

  4. Garnish with a slice of orange.

  5. Sip and enjoy on the couch with your HOTTIE!

I’m using a fresh squeeze of a raspberry orange in this recipe. The coloring and flavor complements the hibiscus. Though, we mix up our citrus often and enjoy a lemon too! Even try fresh grapefruit juice.
